Work and job responsibilities of a fashion designer

The basic job of a fashion designer is to study trends of the fashion and create new fashionable clothes or accessories for the people at different level. The fashion designer has to forecast the trend and create something to meet the demand and taste of customers.
  
He or she creates sketch of clothes or designs and then tests the prototype on the models before finally sending the design to manufacturing units. A fashion designer also has to oversee the entire process of creating a product form sketching to final manufacturing.

Some designers are employed by fashion houses and manufacturing units while other work as freelancer.  A fashion designer can work on clothes, accessories and footwear. They can also work to create garments and apparels. The core of the responsibility of the fashion designer includes, first putting the concept on the paper or using computer aided design, selecting the material or fabric for putting that idea of design into reality, and then working the tailors to stitch together various clothes to create final product. The product is tested and corrections are incorporated before sending the same design for final production.

He or she should know how to play with different colors and patterns on the designing table. The fashion designer who is working on self employed bases also has to deal and negotiate with buyers and customers directly. In big houses, the fashion designer may not be working directly with customers, as they have their own teams for each function of marketing and selling.
